Abstaining from the internet was very hard for me. I use the internet for everything I do, from checking e-mail, staying current on the news, communication, school, work, and for leisure time. It was hard for me not to be able to check blackboard because when I was doing homework for other classes I wanted to look at notes off blackboard but I couldn’t. This was a big struggle for me and made it hard to do my homework accurately and efficiently. I check facebook during my downtime and when I need a break from studying, so I had to replace that which was hard because honestly I didn’t know what to do. I turned on the T.V to take a break but then I got sucked into a show and ended up taking too long of a break. I am on facebook quite a bit, probably too much, so not being able to check up on friends or look at new pictures someone posted was hard. It is my way taking my mind off of studying.
The biggest problem I had from abstaining from the internet was school. Internet is a big part of school. I am taking three online classes right now so I couldn’t do work for those classes for a whole day which actually put me behind and I kept wanting to log on to blackboard to do my discussion boards but I couldn’t and it was hard. Our generation is so technologically based and we rely on the internet for everything. Telling our generation that they cannot use the internet is the end of the world for some people. I e-mail my family quite a bit and my niece was born a month ago and I have not been able to meet her so my brother will web cam me when she is active. My brother e-mailed new pictures of her and called me to get on the webcam but I couldn’t and it was so hard to not be able to see her and look at new pictures of her. He actually told me to just get on really quick but I told him that I couldn’t and I wasn’t going to give in. I found that my room was very neat and tidy within those 24 hours, and my car was clean. Overall, this was a struggle, but I got through and stuck it out. I did not fall of the wagon and it was a success, but I don’t plan on abstaining from it again anytime soon. I like my internet and enjoy having access to it whenever I want.
